Social Software Showcase
BIGWIG also puts on the Social Software Showcase, an online unconference occuring around and during the time of ALA Annual. The Showcase is made up of a wiki where each year we ask our presenters on cutting edge technology and social software to post their presentations. Regardless of where you are in the world, you will have the opportunity to discuss the presentations on the wiki. We have also be have a face to face roundtable discussion with some of our presenters at ALA Annual. Check out some of the content from last year's Showcase to see some of the topics discussed.
We are currently in the planning this year's Showcase. Below are some potential Showcase topics:
- Zotero
- Flock
- Wikia search
- Facebook apps: how effective, how viable
- open social: facebook supposedly signing on - how to take social contexts across platforms
- Google knol
- pan-google social attempts
- microcelebrity (see wired article on same)
- ethics of the new web; what is privacy; what is "nice" and "not nice"?
- activism in social networking
- overcoming resistance to social networks
- stovepiping - siloing of groups in social networks
- social capabilities (or not!) of library software
