Officer Nominations 2008

By Admin - Posted on 24 July 2008

We are now accepting nominations for officers for 2008 - 2009.

As discussed at the BIGWIG Business Meeting  at ALA a couple of weeks ago, we are looking for volunteers/nominees for several open seats:

  • Vice-Chair / Chair-Elect: This person will serve 1 year as vice-chair and then 2 years as co-chair, in which they will be "mentored" by the outgoing co-chair.
  • BIGWIG Evangelist: Basically we need someone to "get the word out" about BIGWIG and its various events, activities, etc.  This includes "recruiting" participants for the LITA Blog.
  • Technical Support Guru: So, now we have yourbigwig.com - we need someone to manage, maintain, and explore new uses for it.  The site currently runs on Drupal, so experience in open-source software, PHP, MySQL, etc. - a plus!

If you want to run yourself for any of these positions, or want to suggest someone who could, please post a reply to this thread.

(You will  have to login or register for an account first, but otherwise, the nomination process is completely open.)

I would like to nominate Tiffany Smith for the Vice Chair position (can't let Rachel run un-opposed). Tiffany has been working with BIGWIG for a couple of years now as our Blog Wrangler, and is awesome.

Thanks, Jason! I'm honored and delighted to accept the nomination!

As many BIGWIG members and LITA bloggers know, I'm passionate about using technology to collaborate. I love the fact that BIGWIG gives us the opportunity to contribute to LITA and ALA; learn about, discuss, and promote social software; and also bring expertise back to our professional work. It's important to honor our commitment to innovation, transparency, and information sharing, and I'd like to further build the community of people who participate in ALA beyond the conference setting.

Thanks again!

Hello BIGWIG!

I would like to nominate myself for Vice-Chair / Chair-Elect.  I have been a member of BIGWIG since the beginning, but have recently become more actively involved.  I was a presenter at this year's Social Software Showcase, and I'm interested in helping BIGWIG in more behind-the-scenes role in planning, too. I want to help BIGWIG move forward with their vision, continue with cutting-edge and innovative programming, and work with LITA to strengthen the overall association.

Thanks!

Rachel Vacek

Hi BIGWIGers,

I would also like to nominate myself for BIGWIG Evangelist. Perhaps Michele and I could spread the word together. I lead the Emerging Technologies Working Group here at the NIH Library. Our working group is very interested in learning about to exploit Drupal as digital repository. So, perhaps I could proselytize for BIGWIG whilst I am learning more about Drupal. I also am the co-chair of the Education and Training Working Group, Federal Consortium for Virtual Worlds.

Hello BIGWIGers

I would like to put myself in the running for BIGWIG Evangelist. I just joined both LITA and BIGWIG a couple of months ago and would love to get more involved.

I wasn't sure if this was the place to expound, but I'll follow the trend and elaborate a bit. I currently work with digital libraries and online teaching tools in an academic setting, but I also have experience leading the eBranch at a public library. In addition, I've taught a lot of social software workshops including a live webcast for Five Weeks to a Social Library. I would love to spread the word about BIGWIG and get more involved in the behind-the-scenes planning. Also, I'm open to working as a team with Douglas if that's an option.

Thank you,

Michele Mizejewski
